Higher Certificate in Arts in Counselling and Psychotherapy

Programme Purpose

The Programme is designed to provide an Exit Only Award for learners who do not complete the abinitio Bachelors of Arts (Hons) Programme for which they would have applied and to which they were accepted on the basis of meeting the specified entry requirements. It is anticipated that option to apply for an Exit Award from the Principal programme at Higher Certificate level will apply mainly where learners (having completed the first two stages of the principal programme decide to pursue other programmes or that counselling is not a career they wish to pursue, based on initial exposure to theory and simulated learning as a learner. Learners, will, by that stage have had the opportunity to have had opportunities to develop their knowledge, skills and attitudes in the fields of Counselling &psychotherapeutic studies, but decide that further study is not one they wish to continue to pursue. The Embedded (Exit only) Award will afford the opportunities to develop knowledge of the theories and conceptual basis of Counselling and Psychotherapeutic practice. The Programme comprises 120 ECTS and will involve students successfully completing 60 ECTS across each of the first 2 stages of the Principal Programme. Most Modules (as set out in the schedule) are semesterised and as a general rule, each Semester comprises 30 ECTS.
