Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology
Programme Purpose
The BA (Hons) in Psychology is for learners wishing to pursue a career as a professional Psychologist, or for those learners already in a caring or other career, and seeking career progression through the attainment of the degree qualification. The programme is accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI), and represents the necessary first step to becoming a professional Psychologist, enabling learners to graduate with a relevant qualification suited to a broad range of career and professional development options, and progress on the path towards becoming a professional working in the field of Psychology. The programme comprises coverage of six core areas that are identified by PSI; the Biological Basis of Behaviour, Developmental and Lifespan Psychology, Social Psychology, Personality and Individual Differences, Cognitive Psychology and Research Design (including a Practical Component). Coverage of these core areas is required for PSI accreditation of the programme. In addition, a range of other subjects within and relevant to the discipline of Psychology, are included in the programme syllabus. These include, for example, Psychoanalysis modules, and other Psychology-based modules pertaining to the health sector and organisations.
